Michelle Pearson-Smith, MSN, RN
Visiting Assistant Professor
Lewis-Clark State College
INA Member since 2010
My experience includes: Idaho Nurses Association president - 2010-2012; INA Past President, 2012-2013; Lewis-Clark State College, Lewiston, ID - Jan. 2009-current; Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, Lewiston, ID - June 2000-current.
In what ways has membership in INA been valuable to you?
Membership in INA has been valuable in opening my eyes to the endless possibilities we as RNs have in influencing practice, education, and regulation of our practice. It has also allowed contact with colleagues throughout the state I otherwise wouldn’t have met, which has broadened educational and professional opportunities for me. All of this in under one year!!
Why would you encourage other RNs to join INA?
Like others have said, it is our professional obligation to join. We must realize that nursing is a profession that requires representation on issues beyond what one person or even one organization can impact. If you want to make a difference in your work place or practice, joining your state professional organization is the route to take.
